January's Book review

Hello and Happy New Year!! This book of the month is called Nurture Shock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. I found the information inside these pages to be refreshing and stunning at the same time. This book is a compilation of research studies on childhood behavior and parenting practices and what works and what does not work. The chapters are easily organized in topics that all of us parents deal with like- why do children lie, why do parents avoid conversations about race, and can self control be taught?. These are only a few topics discussed in this book. What I found most fascinating is that the way the points are explained really makes a lot of sense. As a parent, every day I am confronted with the question of doing what is best for my children- that is the problem we never really know because each child is different and each child perceives information differently. This book is unbelievably informative and a great read for anyone who is looking to have effective interactions with their children. I hope you enjoy it and please tell me your thoughts, I would love to know.
